Start with plan and creation date
Find the exact date the final song version was generated and the Suno plan active at that moment. Keep the invoice or account record. Rights attach to the creation context, not merely to the plan you hold today.
Read the current Terms of Service as well as the commercial-use help article. Short support summaries are useful, but the complete agreement controls the platform relationship.
Commercial use is broader than streaming
Commercial activity can include paid distribution, ad-supported video, client work, film or game licensing, merchandise promotion, and brand campaigns. Each distributor or partner can impose its own delivery and disclosure policies.
A platform grant is only one layer. You still need rights in lyrics, samples, voices, artwork, trademarks, and collaborator contributions.
Copyright uncertainty remains
Suno warns that commercial rights do not guarantee copyright protection. A work’s eligibility may depend on the amount and nature of human authorship, the jurisdiction, and evolving policy.
Do not market a track as fully exclusive or guaranteed enforceable unless you have evaluated the relevant facts and contracts. Keep documentation of your human contributions, editing, arrangement, performance, and production decisions.
Build a release checklist
Before distribution, verify the source plan, remove unlicensed material, confirm collaborators, choose authorized artwork, save the master, and read the distributor’s current AI-content policy. Record identifiers and final metadata consistently.
For YouTube or social platforms, also consider automated claims and impersonation rules. For client work, put permitted uses, exclusivity, revisions, warranties, and indemnity in writing.
Escalate high-value uses
A small personal channel and a national advertising campaign have different risk profiles. When money, reputation, or third-party reliance is substantial, ask qualified counsel to review the project.
